Breaking Bad Title Sequence Redesign
Concept: An American crime drama that tells the story of Walter White, a middle-class American chemistry teacher dying of cancer and trying to secure his family’s future by manufacturing and selling crystal meth[1]. The tone of the title sequence is dark, mysterious, and creepy. The first shot represents the formula Methamphetamine( C10H15N) Since the main character is a chemistry teacher, the title sequence refers to the periodic table as the basis of the animation. It uses letters in the periodic table to reveal the name of the TV show. For the new opening credit, my concept is that at the beginning, the character is a law-abiding person who experienced a lot of things. If he doesn’t become tough, he will be killed by a drug gang. What he does is for his family but in the end, his family doesn’t understand. He finally turns out to be an antagonist. So in my video, we can see the blue liquid is calm. Then the bubbles start to come out, which can imply the character’s mind starts to change. The hammer hits the blue crystal representing him turning out to be the villain. The Knife means conflict between the gang and money and represents the money he made in the drug deal and greed. For mystery, I decided to use moving light with shadows and then use the filter in the postproduction. To establish the progressive transformation of Walter White and his eventual demise, the concept is to reveal the process of a chemical reaction through extreme close-ups and macro shots. This particular focal length is suggestive of internal entrapment.
